Transportation, how to get from
here to there, has always been important for people on the Great Plains.
What started as a trail alongside the river for nomadic tribes evolved to
The South Platte Trail, then railroads, named highways including the DLD
(Denver Lincoln and Detroit), the Colorado Loop of the Lincoln Highway, and
the Golden Rod Highway. The named highways gave way to numbered state
highways like Highway 34, which eventually gave way to I-76.
The Rainbow Bridge is an
eleven arch Marsh Arch Bridge that crossed the South Platte River.
