Agri-Business

The business of agriculture is the major business in Morgan County, and has been since before we became a county in 1884.

Cattle, in the form of ranches and cattle drives, were the first agri-businesses on the Eastern Plains of Colorado.

Farming was the second wave of agri-business to reach the Eastern Plains. The early farmers were known as sod-busters because they were breaking the sod, or grass, of the prairie that had never been farmed.

The third phase of agri-business is processing and selling the products that are grown via ranching and farming.  In Morgan County this includes feed lots, beef processing, dairy, eggs, sunflowers, turf, cheese, and many more businesses.
